Blaeu's Atlas Maior of 1665

Here are some of what I would call “Hidden Treasures of the Store.” If I could, I would call every single map in the store a Hidden Treasure, but I will restrain myself for your sake.  These few things that I mention are not truly hidden, but do get overlooked once in a while.  So feel free to ask about them or come check them out.

Joan Blaeu’s Atlas Maior: This is an amazing atlas of the world from 1665 which contains some of the most beautiful maps I have ever seen.  The best part is if you do not want the whole world you don’t have to get it.  There are separate atlases from 1665 of France, Germany, Italy and other locations.

The “This Is” series: A wonderful collection of children’s books that easily familiarize eager minds with countries, states, and cities.  The series covers many places including Texas, Ireland, Israel, and Hong Kong.  Look for these on our top shelves or on display throughout the store.

Appalachian Trail Poster: This long, narrow map, which is also a poster/wall map, displays the full length of the Appalachian Trail.  With its thick black border it makes for a great framed poster.

The last Hidden Treasure of the day is going to be our boating, sailing, and adventure section: This shelf-and-a-half holds some remarkable stories of spectacular sea adventures.  It has a lot about storms and how people survived them (for the most part) in their tiny boats.  This section is host to all of our Shackleton books, and if you do not know who Shackleton is I will be happy to direct you to the books about him; he is worth knowing about.

**Stay tuned for Part III of the GCB Hidden Treasures Series by Lisa**
